Meet the Experts

Dr. Sabine Hampel

Founder and General Partner of GRIF, a VC-Fund focusing on space & aviation, critical infrastructure, (cyber)security, crisis management and defense.She is an experienced investment professional with over 20 years in equity portfolio management, and leadership across the finance and defense sectors. She led the equity portfolio management team at EB-Sustainable Investment Management (EB-SIM). Her previous roles include equity portfolio manager and Information Security Officer at Acatis Investment KVG. She began her career as a navy officer in the German Armed Forces, serving in leadership roles including company commander at the UN Training Centre.

Rafaela Kraus

As a professor and former Vice President of the Bundeswehr University Munich, she connects academia, startups, and industry to create a European innovation ecosystem. She founded the startup center founders@unibw, initiated the NATO accelerator Palladion, and helped develop programs such as SpaceFounders. As a strategist, speaker, and angel investor, she represents a new understanding of security: networked, European, and results-oriented.

Stefan Aumer

After 15 years in corporate finance, he has now been working as a VC investor at Bayern Kapital for two years, where he supports several startups in the space and defense tech sector.

Oberst (d.R.) Norbert Vetter

Colonel (Res.) Vetter operates confidently at the intersection of the military, academia, and industry. He serves as a bridge-builder who connects and networks these worlds to foster innovation, exnovation, and mutual understanding.

With more than 2,000 days of reserve service as a Colonel, he possesses an exceptional understanding of military innovation and its underlying processes, the complexity of defense procurement, and the operational realities of the defense industry — insights that few others have.

Quirin Herz

An experienced investment professional with a strong focus on defense and deep tech, specializing in early- to growth-stage startups. He also works for a leading German defense company.

Mike Richardson

An experienced technologist, startup mentor, and defense innovation specialist with over two decades bridging advanced research, deep tech commercialization, and field deployment. Having led technology assessments and innovation programs across Europe and the U.S., he brings unique insight into how science transitions from the lab to operational capability. Mike has advised NATO-affiliated initiatives, photonics and quantum ventures, and multiple defense startups on scaling dual-use technologies and securing strategic partnerships. His field experience - including multiple missions to Ukraine - gives him a rare on-the-ground perspective on innovation in active defense environments.

Andreas Pilz

A seasoned aerospace leader with over 30 years of industry experience and deep expertise in defense market entry and B2B sales. As a former Senior Manager at Airbus Defence and Space, he has led complex technology and systems - engineering programs across international environments. He combines the mindset of an empathetic systems engineer with the drive of a business-focused developer, consistently guiding teams through challenging commercial and technical landscapes. Today, Andreas supports founders as our Go-to-Defense-Market and Sales Expert, helping them navigate procurement pathways and build scalable defense sales strategies. His people-centric approach and long-standing industry network make him an invaluable guide for startups entering the defence and dual-use ecosystem.
