Validate your expansion into South Africa's Life Sciences and HealthTech markets and assess your
product-market fit.
South Africa | October 26 - December 4, 2026
For German Life Sciences and HealthTech startups exploring South Africa as a strategic growth market
Into this Program
South Africa has the most developed health system on the continent: academic hospitals, national private hospital groups, country wide pathology networks and internationally recognized clinical research capability, concentrated in a single market. For German Life Sciences and HealthTech companies it is both a commercial market in its own right and a realistic entry point into Sub-Saharan Africa.
It is also a market that punishes assumptions. Healthcare runs on two tiers: a private sector funded by medical schemes, and a public system that procures at national scale.
Both are reachable, and each demands a different go-to-market, a different pricing logic and a different evidence base. Add SAHPRA registration timelines, tender procurement rules and distributor-led sales, and the cost of guessing rises quickly.
South Africa Market Discovery is a high-touch program that tests your specific market hypotheses through curated access to the institutions that decide whether a health technology gets adopted.
This is not a pitch tour.
This is a decision program.

What You Gain
Structured Market Validation
Evidence-based testing of your South Africa market hypotheses, specific to your segment and your buyer.
Curated Access
High-quality 1:1 introduction to hospitals, laboratories, payers, regulators, universities and corporates.
Regulatory and Procurement Clarity
How SAHPRA registration, tender procurement and medical scheme reimbursement actually work in practice.
Decision Clarity
A clear Enter, Delay or Deprioritize outcome, backed by real market signals.
Founder-Level Support
Experienced mentors who understand both European and South African healthcare operating realities.
Post-Program Continuity
Structured follow-up after the on-site week to turn promising conversations into concrete next steps.
How We Work With You
Only 7 startups per program.
That is deliberate.
01
We learn your product before you arrive
Your program manager works through your technology, your ideal customer profile and your validation questions before we make a single introduction. They should be able to explain what you do without your deck.
02
Your target list is built around your validation questions
We do not work from a standing list of contacts. We start from your ideal customer profile and work outwards to the specific buyers, payers and partners who can confirm or kill your hypothesis.
03
We do the hard outreach
Reaching decision makers in an unfamiliar market is the actual work. We are salespeople. We find warm routes, we follow up, and we do not drop a target because the first email went unanswered.
04
We protect your brand
We represent you carefully in the market and bring you in at the right moment. Your name is not spent on low-value meetings.
05
We are on the ground, locally
Our South African program manager lives and works in the market. Culture, hierarchy and how decisions actually get made are not things we research from Germany.
06
We have been founders ourselves
The people running this program have built and operated companies. We know what an uncertain market feels like from the inside, and we treat your time and your capital accordingly.
“We are not running a trip. Before you land, we learn your product, your buyer and the question you actually need answered. Then we do the difficult part, which is getting you in front of the people in South Africa who can answer it. And if the honest answer turns out to be that this is not your market, that is a result worth having. It saves you a year.”
- Niklas Linss, Project Lead Africa, German Accelerator

Academic hospitals, universities and clinical research sites
SAHPRA and public health institutions
Distributors, corporate partners and investors
Every meeting is matched company by company. This is not a group tour.

Validated or falsified use cases for South Africa.
Documented customer, clinical and partner signals.

What Previous Program Participants Say

"This one week actually saved us the work of one entire year. It was very helpful to get a feeling on the market potentials, and to get really good contacts."
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the program cost?
EUR 500 per startup. Travel and accommodation are not included. The fee covers the full program organization and execution. Local transport and other costs during the week are mostly covered as well.
Who from my company should take part?
A founder or a senior commercial lead with decision-making authority. The on-site week only pays off if the person in the room can act on what they learn. The program runs in English.
How much time does the program take?
4 hours per week during the virtual phases, plus the full on-site week from 16 to 20 November.
Do I need SAHPRA approval before applying?
No. Understanding the regulatory pathway is part of what the program delivers. Companies that already hold a CE mark or clinical evidence tend to move faster, but it is not an eligibility requirement.
Do I need an existing South African partner?
No. Finding and testing the right partners is a core purpose of the program.
Why Johannesburg and Cape Town?
Johannesburg is where the commercial healthcare market sits: hospital groups, laboratory networks, payers and corporate headquarters. Cape Town and Stellenbosch are where the research, clinical trial and health innovation ecosystem sits. Most companies need both.
What happens after the six weeks?
Phase 4 continues after the program ends: introductions, mentor engagement and structured follow-up to move live conversations forward.
How many startups take part?
Seven. The number is deliberate. It is small enough that every company gets a target list, an outreach effort and an on-site agenda built around its own validation questions.
