Scaling AI-Powered Growth from Munich to Singapore

Sales-automation.ai is a remote-first Munich company that expanded into Singapore as an APAC gateway, utilizing the German Accelerator program and securing customers like ST Engineering.

For Sales-automation.ai, international expansion was built into the company's DNA from the very beginning.

Founded in Munich by brothers Anton and Otto Lang, the company emerged from years of experience in sales technology and lead generation. After successfully building and exiting a previous venture, the founders saw a persistent challenge facing businesses worldwide: sales and marketing systems had become increasingly fragmented, forcing companies to rely on multiple tools that often failed to work seamlessly together.

‍

Sales-automation.ai was created to solve that problem. The company developed an AI-first platform that helps businesses automate and optimize their entire sales and marketing funnel, from identifying target customers and generating qualified leads to creating stronger pipelines and driving revenue growth. Rather than acting as a passive data repository, the platform actively helps companies build and scale their customer acquisition processes.

‍

When Johannes CGO joined the company just months after its founding, he saw an opportunity to help shape not only the product but also its international growth trajectory.

‍

"We see a gap between what the market currently offers and what customers actually need," Johannes explains. "We wanted to create a holistic, AI-driven platform that helps companies manage their entire sales and marketing journey from one place."

‍

Looking Beyond Europe

‍

Although headquartered in Munich, Sales-automation.ai was international from day one.

The company operates as a remote-first organization, with team members spread across multiple countries and English serving as the primary working language. Johannes himself has lived in Asia for more than five years, providing firsthand exposure to the region's rapidly evolving business landscape.

‍

As the company grew, Singapore emerged as a natural next step. The city-state serves as one of the world's leading business hubs and a gateway to the broader Asia-Pacific region. At the same time, companies entering APAC often struggle with fragmented markets, diverse customer expectations, and complex business environments.

For Sales-automation.ai, these challenges represented an opportunity. The team recognized that both European companies entering Asia and Asian businesses expanding into Europe faced similar lead-generation and market-entry challenges, problems their platform was designed to solve.

‍

However, entering a new market required more than confidence in the product. It required a structured approach to understanding customer needs, cultural differences, and local business dynamics.

‍

‍

Finding Structure Through German Accelerator

‍

To better understand the Southeast Asian market, Sales-automation.ai joined the German Accelerator Market Discovery Program before continuing into the Market Access Program. For Johannes, one of the program's greatest strengths was its ability to bring structure to the expansion process.

‍

"The program gave us someone on the other side who had already thought through the questions we would encounter during expansion," he says. Rather than navigating the market alone, the team gained access to mentors, local experts, and experienced founders who helped them evaluate opportunities and avoid common mistakes.

‍

One particularly valuable experience came through participation in GITEX Asia in Singapore, one of the region's largest technology events. Through German Accelerator's network, the company secured a presence at the event, allowing the team to engage directly with customers, partners, and industry stakeholders. The experience provided immediate market feedback while helping validate demand for the company's solution.

‍

Another defining moment came during a startup pitch event organized through the program. Presenting their business to an audience of founders, investors, and ecosystem leaders forced the team to distill their value proposition into just a few minutes. "It helped us narrow down the message and focus on what really matters," Johannes explains.

What initially felt like a challenge ultimately sharpened how the company communicates its offering to customers and investors alike.

‍

Learning the Nuances of a New Market

‍

Beyond business opportunities, the program delivered important cultural insights. While Singapore often appears familiar to European founders, Johannes quickly learned that successful market entry requires understanding the unique dynamics that shape local business relationships.

‍

"Singapore looks Western, but it isn't really," he says.

‍

Recognizing those differences allowed the team to adapt their conversations, expectations, and go-to-market strategy more effectively.

‍

Mentorship also played an important role in shaping the company's expansion plans. Conversations with fundraising experts provided valuable guidance on investor expectations in Singapore, while discussions around regional expansion reinforced the importance of focusing on one market before expanding further.

‍

These insights helped the team validate Singapore as their primary APAC beachhead while creating a roadmap for future growth across the region.

‍

‍

Building the Foundation for APAC Growth

‍

Today, Sales-automation.ai has already secured customers in Singapore, including ST Engineering, one of the country's leading technology and engineering companies. The company is now preparing to establish its first physical office in Singapore, creating a second operational base alongside its Munich headquarters.

‍

At the same time, the team continues to explore opportunities across Asia-Pacific. Markets such as Australia, China, and neighboring Southeast Asian countries remain attractive long-term opportunities, but the company is taking a deliberate approach to expansion.

‍

Rather than spreading resources too thin, Sales-automation.ai is focused on building a strong foundation in Singapore first.

The strategy reflects one of the most important lessons the team learned throughout the expansion process: Successful internationalization requires focus, commitment, and patience.

‍

‍

Lessons Learned

‍

Internationalization Isn't Always the Right Next Step

For some companies, expanding internationally is a natural extension of their business model. For others, it may not be the right move at the current stage of growth. The key is understanding whether a new market genuinely supports the company's long-term objectives before committing significant resources.

‍

Explore Before You Invest

One of the greatest advantages of market discovery is gaining clarity before making major commitments. Even deciding not to enter a market can be a valuable outcome if it prevents costly mistakes later.

‍

Simplify Your Message

The ability to communicate a complex business clearly becomes even more important when entering a new market. For Sales-automation.ai, refining their story during pitch sessions and customer conversations helped strengthen both their positioning and their sales approach.

‍

Focus Creates Momentum

While the opportunities across Asia are enormous, the team learned the importance of establishing one strong foothold before pursuing multiple markets simultaneously.

‍

Singapore became that foothold

By focusing on building a sustainable presence there first, Sales-automation.ai has created a strong foundation for future expansion across the broader Asia-Pacific region.
